DFS share mapping not working during logon with logon script

$

Hi experts,

Recently users reported that their mapped drive not appear in my computer, I have 1 2003 DC hole the FSMO and 2008 R2 as additional DC. The fileserver holes the DFS root. It is a domain based DFS namespace. Domain functional level is Windows Server 2003 and Forest functional level is Windows Server 2000. I used the tool dcdiag to check the domain status, and also double checked the DNS entries, all seems to be fine, so I would like to seek for help on this issue, thanks a lot.

Disabling DFS Namespace and DFS Replication services if not used?

$

Have a Windows 2008 R2 server that logs an error during startup from DFSR -

DfsSvc - 14550

The DFS Namespace service could not initialize cross forest trust information on this domain controller, but it will periodically retry the operation. The return code is in the record data.

The site doesn't use DFS and doesn't have the DFS tools installed on the server. As its not used I don't follow why the server is attempting to initialize the DFS Namespace, and so will it affect NTFRS if I disable the 2 DFS services?

Hi everyone

I have a server 2008 R2 as domain controller in my network and I have configured 2 file servers in my network , but their replication is slowly and I need to have online replication on my file servers , now

I want to know how can I configure a separate link on 2 separate network connection in different range Ip specially for replication on my file servers.

If anyone has any solution or experience about this problem I will be so thankful to share it with me

How much space for Windows Server 2008 R2

Good day:

I've been searching on the internet and the answers vary A LOT... I would like to know how much disk size does Windows Server 2008 R2 use?
(I know the minimum, or at least according to a file that I found:

Installation method

Approximate disk space requirements

Download size of package

Stand-alone installation

·     x64-based: 7.4 GB

·     Itanium-based: 3.6 GB

·     X64-based: 903 MB

·     Itanium-based: 511 MB

But i wanna know what is the real space that it uses...

Thanks in advance

iSCSI initiator cannot find target

I have Windows 2012 server that has connections to my LAN network and my SAN network. I have a ReadyData 5200 that is connected to both networks. I try to set up the iSCSI initiator using the SAN network IP (172.*.*.*)but cannot connect. When I try to use the LAN network IP (192.*.*.*)it finds the targets. I verified the network connections on the SAN and the server. I am able to ping the SAN IP.

In the event viewer I see the following errors:

- Error10/23/2012 3:50:01 PMiScsiPrt70None

Error occurred when processing iSCSI logon request. The request was not retried. Error status is given in the dump data.

- Error10/23/2012 3:50:01 PMiScsiPrt1None

Initiator failed to connect to the target. Target IP address and TCP Port number are given in dump data.

Question about FC target (FC Initiator) in Windows Server 2012 (Windows Storage Server)

Ok, there's plenty of good news on the iSCSI front for WSS but still nothing for FC.  I think there are some third party FCOE options to add to Windows Server to run FCOE... however I don't have any 10G switches lying around... what I do have are plenty of Cisco 8B FC switches lying around.  So what I would rather do is find a FC Initiator for Windows Server 2012 and setup storage for Hyper-V nodes like it was ISCSI.

where's the FC love Microsoft?

Yes I get it... you might not want to piss off EMC, NetApp, IBM, and HP but really it's time to put the hammer down.  We want cheap stoarge nodes running windows that we mannage for storage.  (Nodes with as little as 5TB and as much as 60TB of disk, with 2 to 8 Dual ported FC cards connecting to the FC fabric)

I am tired of people saying FC is complicated.  I do not agree.  It's pretty simple and straightforward.  It works and you don't have to argue about your network...

BTW if your doing iSCSI and not using cards with off-loading CPU's your doing it wrong.  Those cards are not cheap.. so there's no real cost advantage from FC HBA's and 10-gig or 1-gig offloading adapters.

When attempting to connect to network shares, why am I being told to "Check the spelling of the name." with Error code: 0x80004005?

Last night I upgraded my machine to Windows 8 Pro RTM.

Everything seemed to be going well, but then I tried to access a network share.

I get a window that says:

____________
Network Error

Windows cannot access \\{server redacted}\{path redacted}\

Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.

Error code: 0x80004005
Unspecified error

____________

Clicking "Diagnose" doesn't find any issues.

One of our networking guys had the same problem when he signed in to my machine. When I signed into his Windows 7 box I was able to access the network resources just fine - so it doesn't seem to be a user account issue.

I can access some network resources but not others.  For example, I can connect to Exchange, I can connect to our TFS server. I can even resolve the server name when I ping it.  If I enter the IP of the server instead I get the same error.

My networking guys are stumped.

Why can't I copy files from my desktop computer to Windows Server 2012 when using RDP

I have a new installation of Windows Server 2012 running on a computer and I am accessing it using RDP.  I am having no problems with RDP except that when I try to copy and paste a file from my local computer nothing happens when I go to paste. Paste option shows up...I click paste, but nothing happens.

I completely turned off the firewall to make sure it had nothing to do with it and it still wouldn't work?

Any ideas?

DFSR Replication and Staging Space

$

Hello,

I have setup a DFSR namespace with 4 servers and roughly 2.5 TB of data and a 10Gb link between the servers. For the most part it is running well, pre-production, I was getting a lot of alerts on the staging area so I bumped that up and moved it to a dedicated drive. No more alerts, however it brought up a bunch of questions I was hoping someone could help me sort out.

1. I read best practice on staging size and how to determine so I set my staging space up to 32GB. In your opinion is that too large? Do files replicate prior to the staging space being full or only once the staging space fills up? It seems like it replicates all the time so is there any harm in making it larger?

2. Reason I ask #1 is because I am finding my primary server to have upwards of 20,000 files in the staging space and not going down to 0 even though these servers are not doing anything at the moment. I tried forcing replication as well. However, it seems like everything is in sync and if I add a file or delete a file the replication appears to happen very quickly onto the other servers. So what do I do about these 20k+ files?

Thanks in advance

The backup file contains unrecognized data and cannot be used

Hi all

We really have a big issue with dozens of BKF files; we cannot restore from them. We have tried from Windows 2003 where they originally have been taken, and from Windows 2008. - No luck, we get the error "The backup file contains unrecognized data and cannot be used" during the catalog process.

What option do we have?

Thanks,

Rene

Network shares becoming unavailiable intermittently

$

Hi!

It drives me mad. Our Win 2008 Server was working fine for years. But recently, clients intermittently lose connection to its network shares. This often happens when Office documents are open and should be saved, or during login, when Group Policy is being read, but it seems that it can happen at anytime. It takes several minutes or a reboot of the server before the shares become available again.

When this happens, usually only one or two clients are affected at a time. Pinging the server is fine. Nslookup on the client works fine. RDP to the server is fine. Shared folders are accessible on the server. Hard disks are fine. IPv6 is not active on the server (as far as I can tell).

I have the impression that these losses of connection occurred more frequently recently, to a point where working becomes painful on some clients. I tried everything I knew and found on the net, and I am still absolutely clueless. Can anyone help?

Best

Carsten

DFS - Clients recieving wrong target

$

I have DFS set up on a Win2k8 R2 (AD domain is only win2k3 r2).  I have a single namspace (domain\public) and two target folders on 2 different servers in 2 different sites (main & dr).

target 1 -> \\server1\public   main site

target 2 -> \\server2\public  dr site

No replication setup as of yet between the two.  I have a client (win7) and it is in the Main site and for some reason it keeps getting the DR folder instead of the Main site one. I have read the "how site discovery works" and I don't understand why this is happening.  I'm setup correctly according to the documentation.

No DC in the DR site as of yet.

Any ideas ?

DFS mass replication

Hi all,

i was wondering if there are any tools i could use that would give me a hint as to what is triggering a mass replication with DFSR. I have a guess that it may be virus scanning but i am not sure how this would be changing the documents? if there are any best practise guides out there or anything it would be very useful. i am very new to DFS and kind of had to rush out an environment to fix some issues we were having. My setup is:

server 1 in site 1 as the hub

server 2 in site 2 as a branch to server 1

server 3 in site 3 as a branch to server 1

replication between site 1 and 2 has a bandwidth limit of 32mb each way all day

replication between site 3 and 1 has a bandwidth limit of 512kb both ways between 8am and 8pm then full both ways out of those hours

Can't access Shared Folder of Windows Server 2008 Standard

$

OS -  Windows Server 2008 Standard 64 Bit , WORKGROUP

Anti-Virus - Symantec Endpoint

- Everyday I have to restart the server to be able to access shared folder. After 4 or 5 hours, all PCs could not access to Server Shared Folder suddenly.

So, every morning I restart the server, and afternoon couldn't access anymore.

What could be the problem?

Thanks.

Folder Redirection migration

$
0
0

Hi all,

we are migrating the users folder redirection from one server (windows 2003) to another server (windows 2008 R2).

A few days ago I aligned the two server using robocopy (/mir /copyall). After that I changed the GPO setting in order to point to the new network share.

OLD --> "\\server1\personaldata\%username\my document"

NEW --> ""\\server2\personaldata\%username\my document"

All works fine exceptionsto some users that store on own folderfiles longer than260 characters (path + file name).

In this case the process fail and the new policy is not configurated.

So, I need, manualy, to rename or to move this folder and files from the old server.

We have 2000 users around the europe and this approach is not possible.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance.
