It's supposed to be possible to create a folder in a file share on Windows server 2008 that is write only using advanced permissions. This is possible normally and on previous server versions, you set only the write permissions, and do not check the read option. However, it seems Microsoft was not thinking clearly when they implemented this and Access Based Enumeration, as the option actually reads "List folder/ read data" which actually need to be two different things. By making them the same thing, it seems that Access Based Enumeration is unusable, because it hides the folder when it should not. Alternately, ABE needs to be made smarter so that it continues to list items that the user has ANY access to, not just read. As is, I can't have folders they don't have access to hidden, while allowing them to see the folder they have write access to.
Anyone out there have a creative solution for this or do I simply have to give up on ABE because it's half baked?
