Hi,
In the planning phase for migrating an existing 3-node file cluster running Windows Server 2003 to a new Windows Server 2012 file cluster a few questions have turned up:
1) The existing cluster is running a standalone DFS Namespace (namespace.domain.local). While we want to migrate to a domain based namespace we would like to keep the existing namespace for some period of time. Does the standalone DFS Namespace need to be clustered on the new Windows Server 2012 cluster nodes for high availability, or are there any new functionality in Windows Server 2012 to accomplish High Availability for the standalone DFS Namespace?
2) Due to the time chkdsk needed to run on large volumes the current LUN size for the filecluster is 300 GB. Are there any other elements than backup/restore time to consider regarding larger volumes in Windows Server 2012 (i.e. 2 TB volumes)? Ref the following article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831536
3) Are there any need to consider the new Storage Spaces feature in Windows Server 2012 when using Fibre Channel storage? My understanding is that Storage Space is most appropriate for JBOD storage.
4) Are there any issues to consider regarding the use of the same file cluster for server-application data (SQL and Hyper-V) as long as I/O is not an issue (separated LUNs for server applications)?
