Restoring a spanned volume with a copy of a disk or without initializing

I've had a spanned volume created out of two hardware RAID arrays, and one of the arrays has failed, meaning that the spanned disk has failed. The RAID array may or may not have the original data still on it (conflicting reports from two different technicians), and there may still be a third disk with the data from the drive on it (I will not know till tomorrow). Windows does not seem to let me restore the spanned volume without initializing the disk (formatting), but the data from the spanned volume may still be on that drive. Is there a way to either restore the spanned volume without initializing the drive or initialize the drive and then copy the disk image from the backup disk to the initialized disk and still have it work?
