Have a bunch of W7 clients using MS iSCSI Target on W2008 R2 server for backup purposes. There is an ISNS server running at the same machine. The clients seem to drop the ISNS initiator registration randomly. Found isnscli.exe RegisterDHCPOption thinking I might serve the ISNS server settings via DHCP. At least it says
"Configure the iSNS DHCP option on any available Microsoft DHCP servers. For this command to succeed, youmust be logged in as a DHCP server administrator."
Running isnscli RegisterDHCPOption seems to produce some broken entry on the 2008 R2 DHCP server scope (cannot be viewed/edited or anything) which does not seem to have any effect. So, considering that:
- Google found about zero references wrt this functionality, except for about two pages documenting isnscli.exe options (verbatim copy of isnscli /?)
- the DHCP option does not seem to be really standardized
my question is - has this ever worked, or is this some experimental leftover or what? Any way to distribute ISNS server settings to client computers via GPO? Cannot find anything like that in iSCSI group policy template.
