I have set up a Windows 2008 R2 Failover cluster for the purpose of using it as a member of a Domain based DFS namespace and DFS Replication group.
Details:
2x HP Blades
NIC1: LAN
NIC2: Heartbeat network (Cluster Use Internal)
Shared Storage: EMC SAN (With PowerPath)
The Failover Cluster Validation presents all green.
Necessary Role: File Server & DFS are all installed
Steps:
- Using the DFS Management console, I attempt to add the Cluster name to the DFS Namespace servers using the Add Namespace Server dialog.
- I enter the Cluster name into the name space server field
- I click the "Edit Settings" button and browse to the disk location on the cluster where I want to access (note at this stage I can see the Admin shares listed in the cluster, in my case d$)
- I click OK and OK again back to the Add Namespace Server dialog then click OK
- Almost immediately I get the Progess dialog which shows "Validate shared folder" Error. The error details are
"d:\DfsRoot\dfsAsia: A remote path cannot be built using the administrative shared folder d$ on server SIN0308FS. The administrative shared folder does not exist"
I can browse to this folder \\SIN0308FS\d$\ and it's DNS alternative.
What is going wrong?
Thanks in advance for any offers of advise.
