DFS Namespace madness

I've got two DCs (Win2k8 R2) local to each other. Ran into issues with creating a new NameSpace and long story short eventually decided to start over.

At this moment neither DC has a Namespace however the domain is still broadcasting the Namespace shares \\domain\<shares> from either server or a workstation. I've gone through removing the entries in dfsutil and the registry (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=224384). When i say they aren't showing any I mean none are displayed and none can be added to be displayed in DFS Management.

The shares show up as shares on each DC and the domain. I can no longer find reference to any of the shares on either DC in AD or dfsutil.

To complicate issues one of the DCs appears to be having issues querying the domain but not each other. To ensure I'm not seeing DNS issues I added entries in the hosts file for each server in the other using the FQDN. I've also turned off the firewall on each server. I'm not seeing replication errors or

"The namespaces on <DOMAIN> cannot be enumerated. The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted."

I'm kind of at a lost at this point to resolve the issue.
