FSMT 2008 to 2008 R2 migration Max File Path Issue

Hi All,

I am currently looking to migrate a physical Server 2008 file server to a 2008 R2 VM running DFS using the FSMT (with root consolidation).

However, when I run the FSMT I am given errors in the report for a large number of files as they exceed the max file path limitation. My question is will the FSMT still copy these files to the new server even though they exceed the max file path limit? Or will they simply be skipped because of this?

I am working on getting users to amend these paths but there a lots of them and this is holding up our virtualization project and I would like to pull the files across sooner rather than later. This will only be possible if the files that exceed the max path will still copy across as I am relying on the root consolidation to maintain the UNC paths.

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks in advance

Lucas
