Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 SP2
3 GB ram
70 GB hdd / 45 GB free

I can't backup System State, Backup is starting, waiting 15 minutes and failed.

Error message point to VSS problem, I did KB940032, KB940184, KB975928. But nothing changes, I still have error in backup.

From VSS trace I filtered specific errors

I have a bitlocker volume hosted on a Windows Server 2008 server. I have a folder on this volume, which I have shared. When the server is rebooted, the share is no longer active. I have to re-share the folder. It's as if the folder was never shared in the first place.

File/Storage Errors in Server 2012

Hi

We are running Server 2012 (proper, downloaded from licensing portal) and are using it as an NFS server for some of our VM Ware machines.

Yesterday the NFS storage went offline for approx. 15 minutes, and then came back online.  The following errors are found in Event Viewer, these errors appear to have been happening since 21/08 but this the first time the NFS server has gone offline.

This error is found in the Applications Log:

File Server Resource Manager finished syncing claims from Active Directory and encountered errors during the sync (0x80072030, There is no such object on the server.

).  Please check previous event logs for details.

And is accompanied by this error:

File Server Resource Manager failed to find the claim list 'Global Resource Property List' in Active Directory (ADsPath:LDAP://mydc.mydomain.local/CN=Global Resource Property List,CN=Resource Property Lists,CN=Claims Configuration,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=mydc,DC=local). Please check that the claims list configured for this machine in Group Policy exists in Active Directory.

Additionally the following error appears in the System log, but not at the same time as the above:

The Group Policy Client Side Extension Folder Redirection was unable to apply one or more settings because the changes must be processed before system startup or user logon. The system will wait for Group Policy processing to finish completely before the next startup or logon for this user, and this may result in slow startup and boot performance.

Our PDC is Server 2003 R2, we have a 2008R2 DC and the 2012 server seems to be authenticating with this DC.  There are no errors on that DC.

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks

Storage Pool randomly disappearing/ getting detached

I have a new install of Windows Server 2012, running with no problems for about a month. Recently I added two 2 TB hard drives and created a new Storage Pool. I've moved all my ServerFolders to this storage pool.

The problem is, multiple times a day, the storage space just disappears. When I check Server Manager, the virtual disk usually appears to be attached. If I detach and re-attach, the drive comes back. Restarting the server also brings back the Storage Pool so I know it is getting attached automatically but why is it disappearing in the first place?

Has anyone found a cause or resolution to this problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi everyone,

So here is the problem I am facing lately...

I have a Win2008 R2 Server with some shared folders... Now on my Win 7 PC I've done the following...

Mapped a network drive from cmd like: net use X: \\server\folder

Next: I changed from Location Tab on My Documents folder ( C:\Users\Current User\My Documents ) the path to X:\ and saved it...

after that I went back to cmd and removed the mapped drive: net use X: /d /y

FYI: I have some kind of software that maps the letter X: to my win7 pc every time I log to it so it can accesed from different people. 200% working...

I created a new user to the server so the \\seerver\folder will be shared and accessible onyl from that user...

Results: Location Tab on My documents not shown... redirection NOT working... the files are saved now @ C:\ and not C:\users\current user\my documents

Any suggestions...?

Thanks in advance!

Active directory role and file sharing

Hello,

I am experiencing for some time now "slow" file transfer from my Windows 2k8 server to Vista SP1 clients. Recently, I did some more tests and was finely able to point out the cause; the AD role is what cause the speed decreases.

When I copy a large file from my Win2k8 server with my Vista SP1 client it goes at about 130 meg/sec, but as soon as the server become a domain controller (AD role + dcpromo) clients are only able to copy at about half the initial speed (50 meg/sec).

As suggested in this forum, I tried to disable SMB2.0 and things went a little better, the speed rose up to 65 meg/sec.

I am pretty sure that this behaviors is more a feature than a bug (like the network bandwidth throttle in vista when a multimedia application is detected), but it actually bug me at this time. What is exactly changed by the AD role installer? Does it change the way SMB caching is used? Does it add bandwidth limitation? ... ?

How could I revert this change and get my full speed back?

I've done my tests on different servers with each time a clean install of Win2k8.

Here is my previous post about this issue:

Ricoh Aficio MP C2051 Scan to Folder - Windows Server 2012 Error: Authentication with the destination has failed check settings

$

I have recently upgraded a clients servers to Windows Server 2012 & since doing so have lost the ability to scan to folder.

Both servers are domain controllers and previously on a 2008 domain controller I would have had to make the following change to allow scan to folder:
 Administrative Tools
 Server Manager
 Features
 Group Policy Manager
 Forest: ...
 Default Domain Policy
Computer configuration
 Policies
 Windows Settings
 Security Settings
 Local Policies
 Security Options
Microsoft Network Server: Digitally Sign Communications (Always)
 - Define This Policy
 - Disabled

However I have applied this to the Windows 2012 server but am still unable to scan, possibly due to added layers of security in server 2012. The error on the scanner is Authentication with the destination has failed check settings.
I have also tried the following at the server:
Policies -> Security Policies
Change Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level to: Send LM & NTLM - Use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated.
Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) clients and uncheck the require 128 bit.
Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) servers and uncheck the require 128 bit
I have created a user account on the server for the ricoh and set this in the settiings of the Ricoh and verified everything is correct.

Are there any other things I have missed?

How to restrict a folder size?

We are migrating our Novell Netware 6 File Server to Windows 2008 R2 SP1.

O problem that we are facing is that in Novell Netware is easy to set a folder size limit, just right click and set it's limit.

How can we do it in Windows 2008 R2?

Thankyou in advance.

Which physical disk corresponds to "\Device\Harddisk2\D"?

This question is about WinXP. Sorry if this is way out of fashion these days...

I get eventlog messages from disk service: "An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\D during a paging operation."

How can I find what is \Device\Harddisk2\D ?

Seen this thread. The name in the message is not DRx, neither \DosDevices\D. Just D. Huh?

Using WinObj, I see the following on my system:  \Device\Harddisk2\DR36, \Device\Harddisk2\Partition0, \Device\Harddisk2\Partition1.

Thanks,

Up to now I had 2 x 2TB Drives configured as a StoragePool sPool01 and a Virtual Disk vDisk01 (Mirror/Thin). Now I added a 3rd 2 TB drive and added the drive to the Storage Pool "sPool01". So far so good.

File corruption issue

$

Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

We had a brief power outage / surge the other day which overloaded our UPS and pulled all of our servers down at once.  I didn't get any file corruption on any of them except for the Server 2012 file server, whose data storage volume got corrupt.  This volume is NTFS with de-duplication enabled.  The RAID controller is battery backed, so I'm not sure why it corrupted its filestore.  Now it reports

A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume E:.

A corruption was found in a file system index structure.  The file reference number is 0x9000000000009.  The name of the file is "<unable to determine file name>".  The corrupted index attribute is ":$SII:$INDEX_ROOT".  The corrupted index block is located at Vcn 0xffffffffffffffff, Lcn 0xffffffffffffffff.  The corruption begins at offset 64 within the index block.

As well as

Deduplication information enumeration failed.  Error occured during enumeration of Data Deduplication volumes: MSFT_DedupVolume - HRESULT 0x8056530e.

And

NFS shares enumeration failed. Error occured during enumeration of NFS shares: A general error occured that is not covered by a more specific error code.

I've run chkdsk with every conceivable option, including scheduling a boot-time scan, and it finds nothing wrong with any of the drives.  How do I fix this?  I cannot re-enable deduplication until this is fixed, and I really need it because of the type of data that it's storing.  2012 seems to handle file corruption quite a bit differently than I'm used to.

Ideas? Thanks

Rhiannon

Storage Server 2012 - Adding Drives, and Recovery durations

We are in the process of evaluating different storage solutions both SMB and Enterprise.

Looked at unRAID and FlexRaid as they come up in discussions and need to have the facts.

Reviewing MSFT SS2012 now which is the Enterprise step-up -

* Our Hardware - NORCO 20 Bay StorageServer Chassis, Supermicro Dual LGA 2011 Xeon - 24gb mem

Qn 1) Drives - We have 10 3tb WD Greens and 10 misc 1-2tb Seagates - Can we drop all of this into the cabinet and pool them in SS2012?

Qn 2) Disaster Recovery - Obviously SS2012 is reliant on the RAID Controller not a Software solution like the others so - Does anyone have ideas

on Recovery times to rebuild 1 drive?

Is there a Windows 7 64bit driver for an Adaptec 2904 SCSI card

This is also labeled as an AIC7850. Currently works fine on Windows XP 32bit.

Hi guys,

I'm running Windows Server 2003 R2 64bit and I get the following error when trying to open File Server Resource Manager:
MMC has detected an error in a snap-in and will unload it. MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap-in might not have been installed correctly.

A dialog box with the following error also appears: "Unhandled Exception in Managed Code Snap-In"
FX:{f8abd46c-1297-4474-9cdf-831ebb245f49} Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.

I have tried uninstalling FSRM and re-installing it but still the problem persitsts. Has anyone else come across this problem?

Any assistance would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks,

We are looking at Areca/Adaptec/LSI and other Host Bus Adapters to find which work well and provide the least bottleneck for SATA Drives and work with x64 SS2012.

Can users/testers/designers here post some of there experience with there HBA's
