I have looked all around and have not seen the answer to this. I saw some tech notes that said BEWARE whenever remove/deleting replication - i.e., if you were to just "delete" a replicated folder from one member, then that action could potentially replicate back to another member and wipe out the data.
Need to delete/remove FOLDERs from a replication group - SOME folders - not ALL folders. I do NOT want to remove the replication member (server), because it is replicating just fine with 2 of the main folders we need (call it MyShare), but the other 2 (call it Wrongshare) need to be removed, WITHOUT DELETING ANY DATA ON MEMBER SERVERA (the orig primary source server, where our user files live)
AND, I want to be VERY careful not to delete the user files on the original primary member.
I have server A (PRIMARY/Source - win svr 2008R2) and server B (win 2k3R2 64-bit sp2).
I inadvertently added some new folders to an existing replication group - call it "Main Group."
All 4 sets of folders show like:
Replicated Folder A, 2 items, MySare, Enabled, Server A, Server B
Replicated Folder B, 2 items, WrongShare, Enabled, Server A, Server B
On the 2nd group (WrongShare), I disabled Membership on the Server B, since I definitely no longer want it to replicate from Server A to Server B. I did not yet disable Membership on Server A, because I have not seen any clear documentation about "Cleanly & Safely Removing Folders from a Replication group, while not causing loss of data on the primary member."
So, what is the best strategy? From this "Replication Group" that now contains "MyShare" (fine and good and replicating happily) and "WrongShare," (the set of folders I want to STOP replicating and delete the "membership only" from the Replication Group, while preserving the data on Server A) - If I also disable this Server A on this WrongShare folder, and then DELETE Member," will that still leave my data untouched on Server A? (the orig primary server).
Trying to avoid data loss. Seeking to learn from the experts here. Always grateful for any help! (btw, I did search the online Help, and it is useless - seems Microsoft only wants us to CREATE Replication folders and groups, but never to DELETE them nor re-organize them)
As always, Thanks in advance,
Jeff
