DFS issue when logging in off-network (Cached credentials)

Environment:

AD:  2003

DHCP has WINS Option

FileServer: 2008 R2

Issue:  I had setup DFS incorrectly and it is in production and tried to setup correctly but new design not showing-up when log-in off network.  I am connecting to our Wi-Fi network or even my home wi-fi when logging in off network.

Original design

\\domainname\users - there is no folder referals and this points directly to the path.  i.e. \\servername\users

New design

Namespace: \\domainname\Files

Folders:  Dept and User

Folder referals under Dept and Users:  Site 1 and Site 2

Thus path to a user folder in Site 1 would be \\domainname\Files\User\Site1\Username and site 2 would be \\domainname\files\user\site2\username

No replication between sites

Both namespaces are in use but the old is how we are currently pointing users.

I map my Home drive in AD to the new DFS path and while on domain all is fine

When I log on off network (Cached credentials)  - I'm not getting any drive mapping, when I log onto our VPN no drive mapping but I can manually map drive

When I change my AD account back to old DFS path for my home folder on network fine and also fine when I log on off network or locally with cached credentials.

It like it doesn't like the longer filename with the new DFS namespace is not being cached so that I least see it through explorer.

Ideas?

Thanks
