Problem with assigning file permissions on a Windows Server 2008 R2

Hello,

I'm having a problem.  I have a shared folder with many subfolders that the domain users group has r/w access to.  I have a contractor who needs access to only two of the directories.  It's been awhile since I've had to do anything that wasn't completely straight forward with rights because I work with small businesses.

Looks like this:

C:\Shared-
            -Contractor Directory1
            -Contractor Directory2
            -Restricted Directory1
            -Restricted Directory2

I did the following:

- Removed the contractors user from the domain users group
- Created a group for the contractor called contractor access
- Assigned r/w access to only the folders the contractor needed access to
- Assigned List Folder Content to the main shared directory

This kind of worked, except the contractor could see every file in the restricted directories, but could not open them. You have to imagine we actually have 30 or 40 directories, and I'd rather the contractor not even see the directories they don't have access to.  If I remove the List Contents right, the contractor gets an access denied message when the click on the shared drive letter. I've played with combinations of the Advanced rights for List/Traverse & List/Read, but nothing is working the way I want it. I'm trying the "apply only to items in this directory," but I'm guessing that will be a dead end as well.  Can someone point me to the right place, method, and rights to make this work correctly?

Thanks,

Jeff
