Server 2008 - Disk management Error -  Volsnap.sys Error (Code 39)

Having problems with server 2008, if I attach a usb drive it says “needs to be formatted” but the drive works fine on other machines, and when you do click to format it a message comes up saying “the operation failed to complete because the disk management console view is not up-to-date” and when I installed a new drive in the server and tried to format it I got the same message.

In device manager under storage volumes, it has generic volume with an exclamation mark “!” and under properties it says “Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing (Code 39)”. I have tried clicking on “Click for a solution” but nothing happens, and I have tried uninstalling and re-installing it but still the same thing happens. Under drivers on the generic volume it says Volsnap.sys.

Anybody have a solutions to this?

Regards

Joe
