We are using DPM 2010 to backup a 2008 R2 file server. A few weeks ago backups started failing.
DPM reports the VSS provider is in a bad state.
Event logs on the file server at the time of backup:
Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine Cannot find anymore diff area candidates for volume\\?\Volume{xxxxxx}\ [0]. hr = 0x8000ffff, Catastrophic failure
'vssadmin list writers' indicates all writers are stable and without failure.there is only the MS VSS Provider installed on the server, in other words we aren't using a 3rd party vss provider on the file server.
When we do a 'vssadmin list shadowstorage' we get:
No items found thatt satisfy the query.
Do we need to manually create a shadowstorage location for our volume that we are backing up? Should we reinstall our DPM agent to do this?
