After getting burned a little bit when I found out that I couldn't remove drives from my storage space with no resiliency, I'm trying to figure out when I can remove drives from pool. I really want to use storage spaces, but I'm assuming that one day I will want to upgrade my drives, so I will need to be able to remove old ones to free up physical connections. I've been experimenting with different ways to set up the storage pool and this is what I have found: when the storage pool is first created, you must choose disks to create it with. The chosen disks will not get the remove option. Any disks added after the pool is created will retain the remove option. If another space is added to the pool later on, the remove option disappears from all drives. Finally, I have yet to find the "evict" option that I read about on this forum.
Questions: Is it possible to restore the option to remove drives from the pool? Where is the option to evict a drive located?
This is Windows Server 2012 Essentials installed by itself on commodity hardware. There are 5 drives attached via SATA.
Thanks!
