G'day,
I have a Server 2008 R2 (non sp1) file server that after a reboot decided that it needed to do a full chkdsk including 'scan for and recover bad sectors' (or one of my staff set it to run at next start up and didn’t tell anyone!), sigh, it’s a 2tb volume so naturally its taking a while to complete.
What I would like to know is, is it possible to stop chkdsk after it has started to run upon start up (say that 5 times fast :)) other than simply turning off the server? I have powered off servers during a chkdsk before and lost all drive information and, the only way i managed to get the data back off the server was to use a data recovery program, so i am a bit hesitant to power this server and its 2tb volume off.
Has anyone got any insight they could share or if the above doesn’t make sense please let me know and I’ll try and explain it better.
Cheers
D
