Hi --
I'm trying out the retire-a-disk procedure in Storage Spaces and have a virtual disk that hasn't repaired after 22 hours.
It's small, 77GB, and only contained about 120 MB of data. Eight columns, two journal disks, three hotspares. The volume is E:, it sits on a virtual disk called Firstvdisk.
1) Added a new drive as "automatic."
2) Set one of the physical disks as "retired."
3) did repair-volume E, came back with no errors.
4) Did a repair-virtualdisk. FirstVDisk got an operational status of "Degraded."
So far, all's working according to plan. I've even been able to remove the physical disk. But it's been a day nearly and the virtual disk is still degraded. Shouldn't it have already converted one of the hotspares to an automatic and fixed itself by now? (And if not, shouldn't there be some kind of guidance from the get-virtualdisk cmdlet or Server Manager along the lines of "hey, please change the usage of one of your hotspares to 'automatic' so I can finish fixing this disk?")
Thanks for any insights.
