I recently purchased three 3TB Western Digital My Book 1140 Essential USB 3.0/2.0 hard drives and configured them in a Windows Server 2012 storage pool. When I right click the physical disk in the storage pool manager and choose Toggle Drive Light I get an error "Failed to toggle the drive light; Not Supported".
To my understanding from the FAQ on storage spaces per here, the Toggle Drive Light feature relies on drives that support the SCSI Enclosure Services (SES) protocol.
I specifically purchased the three Western Digital drives because they offer a SES driver, which can be found here.
Even after installing the SES drivers I am unable to toggle the drive light. As a result I now have to physically label which drives correspond to the drives in the storage pool.
Is this an issue that I would need to take up with Western Digital? What are your recommended drives or drive enclosures that are compatible with the Toggle Drive Light function with Windows Storage Pools?
