I have a windows server 2003 environment that has 2 DCs running a DFSR Namespace between them, and a shadowprotect BDR using VSS to back up both servers at 30 minute incrementals, full drive copy.
Recently I have had two instances where a user has come to me and said that a few PDF files are missing, so the first thing I check is the BDR, Client says they made the files on the 9th and 10th so I mound a few images from different points on those days.
But there is no record of the file, I went through all images for the day and found nothing.
-This BDR is tested twice a month with a backup history event log check and full image mount and we have several others just like it at other clients and I have no reason at all to think it might have missed a file.
One other instance was with a Microsoft Money file, this file is stored on our server in the users mapped documents folder, this user lost his file last year and we recovered it for him, ran a backup of the file and left it on the server for him, however now that he has lost it again I see nothing but that last manual backup file we had made.which is still on the server, in this case he may have moved the file off the server and onto his laptop, I cannot really tell, but the PDF issue really concerns me, I don't see how 2 files that got saved to the server can disappear before you go looking for them and before the backup catches it.
Any thoughts? is there something wrong with my DFSR? file system? network? User? BDR?
