Hi All,
I'm planning to run a mock DR in infrastructure and i have the following queries related to DFSR. Can any experts help..
Setup : Two Windows Server 2003 R2 Std Edition, one server in each site; one Dc's in each site
Two sites - DFS-R . We are using domain based namespace for users to locate the data seamlessly. we have a replication group which also defines the replication between these 2 servers.
In the event of DR plan, Server 1 is going to be out of network and only server 2 is going to be available for users to use. So,I'm proposing the following methods as part of this activity..
Tasks: - )
1) In the namespaces, disable the referrals which are pointed to server 1 by locating each and every domain based namespaces.Locate Server1 and click on Disable Name Space Server. Purpose of doing this, is during this event, enforce new users to always locate
the folder in Server 2 . What will happen to the existing users who were connected to Server 1? Will they be automatically re-directed to server 2 or we have to make sure all of them disconnects the share before I start this?Once this activity is over, enable
it back so that Server2 has the latest data and can be replicated back to Server1 (completion of this exercise).
2) IS there any built -in tools available to detect the number of users connected to share in server 1 apart from looking at Manage sessions in share and storage management?
3) In the replication Group, disable the replication with server 1 by locating each and every replication partners. Purpose of doing this to stop the replication between two file servers. On completion of this exercise, Just enabling this back, initiates replication between them?
4) While enabling server 1 back,I'm planning to do one by one so that, once replication of first replication group is completed then move on to next group. Just running the Diagnostic report is enough or do i have to run any checks before I go forward?
5) Is the above order can be a right approach or it has to be done in the reverse order ? I'm not going to delete anything from DFS snap-in rather just disable them so that I know what I have done as part of this activity.
Any other suggestions or thoughts are welcome. Thanks a lot for your time in this..
