Is there a way to authenticate a wireless connection in Windows 7 without setting the wireless to connect automatically then rebooting?

Windows 7 machines say unauthenticated when connected wirelessly to our domain. The unauthenticated message goes away only if we connect to the wireless connection automatically and reboot. Is there a way to authenticate without connecting to the wireless automatically and rebooting? For instance, I would like to connect manually to the wireless whenever I want and as soon as I do it authenticates.

I am using a medialink wireless router that is configured more like a wireless switch. DHCP comes from our server. Security is WPA-personal. I've also tried using a different wireless router setup with a radius server with PEAP, and that doesn't seem to work either. The radius server authenticated the user but the message on the machine remained the same: "domain.local 2 unauthenticated"

Each and every way users are able to access resources, but this message is driving me crazy. We don't get this message on any XP machines.

On the client side, I've tried turning on network discovery, rejoining the domain, turning off all firewalls (only using windows), updating NIC drivers, updating router firmware, etc.

Am I missing something?

Thanks!
