We have a client that has the mydocs/pictures/desktop/appdata being redirected to a server location (\\server1\share).
We took over this client just recently and we're troubleshooting some random profile issues they had been having that the previous consultant was never able to solve.
We changed the group policy to use fqdn (\\server1.company.org\share) ljust to stick with best practice and after that all the sudden about half the users are missing files in their redirected folders. Mainly it seems like the desktop folder has completely dissappeared and the other folders may or may not contain missing files.
We restored several users folders using "Previous Versions" and changed the GPO back to its original settings. After a reboot sometimes these files are completely gone again off the server and in the event log we get a "network path not found" error.
The clients are all Windows 7 SP1 and the server hosting the files is 2008 R2 SP1.
Also at first I thought offline file sync might be causing issues but only about 70% of the clients have that turned on, the rest have it turned off.
We have a ticket with microsoft open but so far they have not been able to figure it out either, at this point we're not sure what else to even look at.
