Server 2012 Steps to migrate to a mirrored volume (Failed Boot or Non)

All the posts I read on migrating, or recover from a failure are very old KB's, I was wondering if it got any easier with server 2012.

My main bootable drive (SATA) is set as a mirror to another drive, it seems like a PITA if your primary drive fails, to kick it over to the mirrored drive.

There has been talks of using ultimate boot cd to use some sort of disk manager to repair boot, it seems to me that MS should have clear instructions somewhere for recovering from this.

Basically I have 2 SATA drives mirrored, and want to break the mirror, add another speedier drive, recreate the mirror, sync, then act as the primary failed and make the mirror the new primary, take out the slower drive, replace it with another type of speedy drive then recreate the mirror.

Any clear ideas on server 2012?
