Hello, I post the following in another forum, I was informed by one of the MS guy to post it here, as this is the best place for this question. I would be grateful if someone could help me out with the following issue/questions please. Thanks in advance.
I setup a new DFS share, lets call it "My Company Share"
if I do this \\Domain\My Company Share it works i.e. I can access the files correctly, the same as if I do this NET USE * \\Domain\My Company Share
The drive maps OK and I can access the files.
However if I do this from the RUN command \\Domain the DFS share does not show up (I believe it may have showed up breifly but fanished again).
The above is hosted on Windows 2003 R2 SP2
This DFS Share is currently on one Server.
I have other DFS Shares active that do show up when doing \\Domain
I am not certain what the following Tabs indication of the "DFS Management" MMC
"Namespace" this shows 0 entries
"Namespace Servers" this shows the entry for my Server (which is a Domain Controller, I now it is recommended to host on member Servers but this is not possible at the moment)
Should the my new DFS Share show any details under the "Namespace" tab i.e. rather than 0 entries?
What I find confusing is that, I have a number of other DFS Shares, as far the the "Namespaces" tab is concerned some of these existing DFS Shares show up details when clicking on the "Namespaces" tab i.e. a list of locations where the DFS Share is hosted. Other existing DFS Shares show 0 entries under the "Namespaces" tab. However for thes exisitng DFS Shares they are all visable when doing \\Domain
Therefore I am not sure if my DFS Share \\Domain\My Company Share does not show up under \\Domain as 0 entires appear for this DFS Share under the "Namespaces" tab, but if so why do other DFS Shares show up under \\Domain when they too have 0 entries under the "Namespaces" tab. Also how do I get my new DFS share to show up under the "Namespaces" tab (again is shows up under the "Namespace Servers" tab).
I would be very grateful for some advise on this please
Thank you
Jo
