We have our user accounts configured with folder redirection enabled for a number of profile folders including the desktop; we find it works well in our environment.
Recently, we set up the "user home" server with users' home directories, desktop folders, documents folders, etc. to use failover clustering with a backup server in an effort to provide higher reliability for users. The failover works fine, and we are able to migrate the share between fileservers. Unfortunately, users sometimes report their desktop items disappear when this occurs. We suspect some sort of SMB timeout happening here.
I'm looking for suggestions for any tweaks to prevent the desktop share connection from timing out like this. Perhaps some SMB parameters that can be tuned?
We do have offline files/client-side caching disabled on our client workstations (we've run across too many applications with internal database files that do not work well with CSC services enabled).
