DFS Lost files after enable replication, Cannot find on Conflict and deleted folder

Hi,

I have configured 2 DFSR Windows 2008 R2 SP2 replication (let's say server A and B). They are also a domain controller.

Previously, We configured bi-directional replication group between these server A and B as a member and point server A as a primary member for initial replication. It was running fine since then.

However, we feel the pre-staging was very slow due to bandwidth limitation; so We decided to backup a data from server A and restore it to server B. And we only allowed replication from A (source primary server) to B (target), also disable replication from B to A. In short, replication group was only A to B (one way).

After a few days, I saw on the event viewer stated the pre-staging was done and replication will begin as per normal (A is no longer primary server), So We enable the replication back from B to A.

These were when the problem begin; It seems some old data were still remain on server B; so that old datas were replicated back to A.

We suffered some updated data on server A being overwritten by old data from server B. When, checking on event viewer, we realized some datas moved to conflictanddeleted folders. Without further ado, we restored a data from conflictanddeleted folders to get an updated data back. We manage to restore some of datas but we still lost some others.

Until now, we cannot find that lost data anymore; to make it worst; we don't have any backup of that.

My questions:

1. How can the data still remain old data when the event viewer said the pre-staging was done completely?

2. How can we restore the lost data ? Where can I find it ? (FYI, We also used 3rd party software to dig out any deleted files without any luck)

3. Is there any specific bug causing this issue ?

Please kindly enlighten. We are in desperate position to restore the data back.

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,

Robert
