Hi, (This is a reposting from the genral section)
Sorry for the length of this question, but it is diffcult to sum up in a few words.
I have setup a file screen to stop our system users from storing lots of data on their desktops (the user Desktop, profile & documents folders are redirected to seperate directories on the server to enable this). My idea was that users could create only shortcuts or folders which would have shortcuts in them on the desktop. This seems to work fine, if a user tries to create a file on the desktop, they get a warning and the file is not created. If the user creates a folder and then tries to create a file within the folder, then again the file screen kicks in, the user gets a warning and the file cannot be created.
Today I noticed a user had a folder on his desktop with a word document in it; this should not be possible. I tested the above process again, and sure enough the file could not be created. After testing, I have discovered that all the user has to do to overcome the file screen, is to drag a folder that already contains a file from their documents folder on to their desktop and Hey Presto, no error message.
This causes further problems because if the user opens the file from within the folder on the desktop (a word document for example) and they try and save it back, they get an error message (which is correct).
Can somebody tell me if this is a bug in FSRM, or is the problem within my implementation?
My file servers are running Server 2008 R2 and all my client computers are running Windows 7 Enterprise.
Thanks for reading this, and any feedback would be useful
